CREW CHIEF - UTILITIES MAINTENANCE
Performs difficult skilled trades work supervising the installation, maintenance, repair and/or construction of water and sewer systems; does related work as required. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Field Supervisor. Continuous supervision is exercised over assigned staff.

Essential Functions/Duties

Supervises, schedules, and participates in the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers and equipment operators in the repair, maintenance and construction of water and sewer lines; Discusses job requirements with and receives work instructions from supervisor; Trains and instructs subordinates; Operates equipment incidental to assigned work or the transportation of crew; Assists in preparation of specifications for purchase of equipment and supplies; Responsible for crew jobsite safety; Performs daily pre-trip inspections on assigned vehicles and equipment.
Maintains time and material records; Prepares simple work reports; Requisitions necessary materials and equipment.
Required to serve on the emergency on-call rotation.

CREW CHIEF UTILITIES MAINTENANCE
Thorough knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in water and sewer line construction and maintenance; thorough knowledge of the safe use and operation of common hand and power tools; thorough knowledge of the safe use, operations and preventative maintenance of common automotive and mechanical equipment; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; thorough knowledge of OSHA laws that apply to areas of work responsibility; ability to assign and supervise the work of others; ability to prepare simple reports; ability to follow oral and written directions; knowledge of computer operations sufficient to enter, retrieve and manipulate data.

CREW CHIEF - UTILITIES MAINTENANCE
Graduation from high school or equivalent and considerable experience in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of municipal water and sewer utilities and related facilities, including the operation of excavating equipment and considerable supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

1. The physical activity of this position includes:

Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.

Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or couching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.

Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform one or more of the following: operate machines such as, drill presses, power saws where seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.

Special Requirements:

CREW CHIEF- UTILITIES MAINTENANCE

Minimum 1 year at a Crew Chief I position.
Minimum 6 hours of approved supervisory management training upon hire.
OSHA Competent Person Trenching/Shoring and Confined Space Entry certification.
Basic and Intermediate Work Zone Safety and Flagger certifications upon hire
VA Grade III Wastewater Collection System Operators Certification OR Grade A Distribution System Operators Certification upon hire.
VA Class A Commercial driver's license

Drug screening and criminal background checks required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.79 - $32.98 per hour
