Position Requirements:

Applicants must have at least (2) years of experience in the asphalt industry as an Asphalt Roller Equipment Operator.
Must be a hard worker and a team player.
Must have reliable transportation to travel from jobsite to jobsite.
Ability to use tools such as shovels, brooms and asphalt rakes.
Ability to work in various weather conditions.
Knowledge of safety standards pertaining to construction field.
Perform minor maintenance and adjustments on equipment.
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
During peak season, ability to work overtime and occasional weekends.
Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Always follow the dress code and compliance of proper PPE.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Report all accidents and damages right away to your Foreman.
Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
Proof of right to work in the US.

Physical Requirements:

Body Position:
Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extensive periods of time.
Body Movement:
Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and have full use of hands, fingers and arms. Ability to occasionally lift moderate to heavy loads.
Regularly working with hands extended overhead, sometimes in combination with the operation of hand power tools.
Capability to lift at least 50 pounds and carry at least 30 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
Physical ability to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.
Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in changing weather conditions.
The Operator must have the ability to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
Vision:
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus rapidly.
Maintain constant attentiveness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the movements of other employees, contractors and general public, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.

Education:

High School Degree or GED preferred.
Must be at least 18 years old

Duties and Responsibilities:

Understand and implement paving procedures while following directions to meet the requirements of the project.
Operate roller to compact earth, subgrade, and sub-base asphalt surfaces in the construction of highways and streets.
Drive machine in consecutive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling asphalt and subgrade to desired compaction and smoothness.
Decides speed and direction of machine based on understanding of compressibility of material under changing temperatures.
Distribute, break down, compress and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt.
Must be able to determine the placement of materials correctly.
Must be able to read plans and grades.
Have a general understanding of grade control.
Overall understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems of the roller.
Coordinate machine movements with other activities, positioning and moving the machine in answer to hand or audio signals from crew members.
Aid in setting up and taking down signs.
Watches rolling temperature and works within temperature best suited for material being laid.
Ascertain rolling drum mode.
Have a thorough knowledge of material thickness, type of material being laid, and material temperature for deciding rolling range.
Make regularity and scale adjustments depending on mix design, material thickness, temperature zone, and density.
Adjust water systems controls to avoid material pickup and eliminate unnecessary water usage.
Create rolling pattern and determine paving width, roller drum width, drum overlap, and paver speed.
Convey with paving crew on any flaws in material or finished mat.
Understand correct techniques for rolling transverse joints.
Identify flow lines and inverts.
Attempt to minimize roller marks.
Works with paving crew with hand rolling, wacker work, manholes and catch basins.
Help trim edge lines and pickup excess asphalt material.

Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
